WORKING TOGETHER

Understanding Yourself, Creating Change

Lasting change begins with understanding, of yourself, your patterns, and your possibilities.Therapy with me is a collaborative process designed for people who want to actively participate in their own growth. Together, we examine the thoughts, emotions, and relationships that shape your experience, building practical skills and deeper self-awareness along the way.
My approach integrates advanced psychological methods with curiosity, empathy, and respect for your individuality. Whether you’re facing anxiety, loss, or life transitions, our work will be tailored to your goals, informed by research, and grounded in compassion. One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Rather than adopting a “one size fits all” model, my approach is designed to be flexible and responsive to the changing needs of my clients. The therapy process is active both on your part and mine. Different approaches may be needed at different times, and together we will determine what is most helpful for you. Research on effective clinical practices combined with my 40+ years of clinical experience helps guide this process. I draw on treatment approaches such as Relational Psychotherapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion Focused, Trauma Informed therapies and other validated approaches that are supported by scientific research and can be brought together and integrated in a manner that fits your goals and personal style.

A Personalized, Culturally Humble Practice

In order to understand your unique ethno-cultural experience, I adopt a stance of cultural humility. I practice patient directed, outcome-informed integrative psychotherapy grounded in both behavioral and relational theories.

I begin with open, unstructured conversations and symptom inventories to understand your concerns in terms of frequency, intensity, duration, complexity, and impact on daily life. I’m interested in your strengths, resources, and readiness for change, as well as your self-identification regarding gender, culture, sexuality, race, and ethnicity.

I may also ask about family constellation, key relationships, developmental milestones, and values or beliefs that shape how you view yourself and others. These insights allow us to create a collaborative case understanding that guides our work together.

The Foundation of Our Work Together

Empirical research and decades of clinical experience inform my understanding of how relationships, personality, and emotional factors influence treatment outcomes. Therapy is not simply a set of techniques, it is a working alliance built on trust, empathy, and collaboration.

Our relationship activates key therapeutic elements such as:

  • Instilling hope and realistic optimism
  • Creating an expectation that change is possible
  • Providing opportunities for corrective emotional experiences
  • Facilitating focus, insight, and practice of new learning

I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can connect emotionally with yourself and with me, building the trust and security needed for healing. This environment helps reduce emotional avoidance and fosters openness to change.
By tracking your subjective experiences, we gain insight into your daily life, how you construct meaning, and how therapy is progressing toward your goals.

Integrating Evidence-Based Approaches

My work is based on clinically validated models of therapeutic change. Within a relational context, I integrate a variety of clinical methods and evidence-based practices, such as:

  • Motivational Interviewing: to help you explore and resolve ambivalence about change.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): using collaborative empiricism and Socratic dialogue to test new perspectives and strategies.
  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT): to improve relationship patterns and address transitions or losses that often impact mood.
  • Behavioral and Relational Integration: blending structured skills training with insight-oriented reflection for changing maladaptive relational cycles.
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to promote mindfulness, increase cognitive flexibility, encourage action consistent with your values, and unhook from thoughts that limit you.
  • Emotion Focused Approaches: to reduce emotional and cognitive avoidance.
  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): for decreasing stress and disrupting stressful mental loops.

Regardless of the presenting problem, treatment is continually monitored and adjusted in a patient-directed, outcome-informed manner. We select specific metrics to track progress, symptoms, and goals, ensuring therapy remains purposeful, dynamic, and relevant to your experience. This process keeps therapy focused, alive, and collaborative, fostering a strong sense of being understood and supported within a safe therapeutic relationship.
